Bluetooth for older cars.
Keep the original radio.

A quick review of the Syncwire Bluetooth 5.4 FM transmitter I use to add Bluetooth audio to the original radio in my LX470. It's a simple option for an older Land Cruiser, LX470 or another car without factory Bluetooth, while keeping the radio that's already there.

If your older car still has its original radio, getting music from your phone into it can be a hassle. This FM transmitter gives you another option besides cassette adapters, disc-based adapters or loading music onto a USB drive. Your phone connects to the transmitter over Bluetooth, and the car radio picks up the audio on an FM frequency. You don't have to replace the stereo.

Mine is set to 88.1 FM. That isn't a universal setting: choose an unused frequency that works where you drive and tune the radio and transmitter to match. I've left mine on the same station for a while now, although I occasionally need to change it in a different area.

There's one physical button. Up and down is volume, left and right skips songs, and pressing it pauses or plays. I keep its volume at max and adjust on my phone or the car's volume knob. There's also a hidden button underneath for the lights. I keep mine off, because I'm not fun. People can hear me clearly on calls even though I'm sitting pretty far from the mic.

When I start the car, it reconnects to my phone and I just hit play. It connected so quickly while I was filming that it paused my recording. The charging ports are one USB-C PD port rated at 36W and one USB-A charging port rated at 12W, 48W total. Those are separate from the music-note USB socket for USB-drive playback. You can use Bluetooth for audio without loading songs onto a drive.

I've had other FM transmitters that worked well for about a month, then got weaker until the audio sounded bad. That's why I waited to review this Syncwire transmitter until I'd used it for a while. No complaints so far. For my LX470, it's a convenient way to keep the old radio and listen from my phone.
